Mini Review, Blog Tour and Giveaway: Bleeding Heart

Today's review is very dear to my heart, simply because my friend Amber is the author and this is her first novel! This post will be longer than my usual posts, and will include a couple of things:
  • My mini review
  • About the book
  • About the author
  • Info on the blog tour giveaway

Bleeding Heart by Amber Stokes

Release Date: July 25, 2013
Publisher: Seasons of a Story
Genre: Historical Romance
Pages: 178
Format: eBook
Buy It: Amazon
Five bleeding hearts. One profound journey.

Summer 1886

Sally Clay's livelihood has been snatched away, but in its place arises an opportunity to escape from her sordid past and an unrelenting, unwanted suitor. Boarding a train with a heartsick rancher and an enigmatic miner, she leaves Virginia City behind and heads to Northern California, waiting for the chance to make right what went wrong three long years before.

But the road to revenge is far from smooth. Sally soon learns that the jagged pieces of a broken heart can far too easily wound the hearts of others - and hers isn't the only heart that's broken. Tragedy and fear dog her steps as she flees from the redwood forests to the high desert and back again. Will her bleeding heart ever find a way and a place to heal?

A desperate soiled dove. Three men who come to care for her. One man determined to claim her.

All on a journey that will show them what true love really involves.
Since I have come to know Amber personally, I know that her writing talents are something to be feared. However, I was not expecting a debut novel quite like this. To be honest, I've never been one to like historical novels, but I accepted the review because it was Amber, and I doubted I could go wrong with her talents. I was right!

She delicately blends the story of Sally into the lives of the other characters around her, and shows the true reality of what true love can mean for people. Often our culture shies away from love because it can hurt. However, Amber shows us that while love cat hurt, there is a way to heal from it and love again. Everyone needs to pick up this book!

I received this book free for review from the author. I was not required to post a positive review, simply an honest one.

Mini Review and Blog Tour: The Letters

The Letters by Suzanne Woods Fisher

Release Date: August 1, 2013
Publisher: Revell
Genre: Amish Fiction
Series: The Inn at Eagle Hill #1
Pages: 320
Format: Paperback
Buy It: Amazon
Rose Schrock is a plain woman with a simple plan. Determined to find a way to support her family and pay off her late husband's debts, she sets to work to convert the basement of her Amish farmhouse into an inn. While her family, especially her cranky mother-in-law, is unhappy with Rose's big idea, her friend and neighbor, Galen King, supports the decision and he helps with the conversion. As Rose finalizes preparations for visitors, she prays. She asks God to bless each guest who stays at the Inn at Eagle Hill. As the first guest arrives and settles in, Rose is surprised to discover that her entire family is the one who receives the blessings, in the most unexpected ways. And she's even more surprised when that guest decides to play matchmaker for Galen King.

With her signature plot twists combined with gentle Amish romance, bestselling author Suzanne Woods Fisher invites readers back to Stoney Ridge for fresh stories of simple pleasures despite the complexity of life. Fisher's tale of God's providence and provision will delight her fans and create many new ones. Welcome to the Inn at Eagle Hill.
I am never disappointed with Suzanne's books, especially her Amish fiction. This book is certainly no exception! She paints her characters' personalities so well, it's as if you know them in person. Rose is independent, which is not common for a woman in the Amish world. She does receive some grief for her choices, but in the end her friends and family stand by her. As she enters into the venture of her inn, she meets many surprises that even the reader cannot hope to expect! The entire book is a joy to read and continues expressing Suzanne's warm writing style. Definitely check it out!

Mini Review and Blog Tour: Demon's Grip

Demon's Grip by Tahlia Newland

Release Date: June 24, 2013
Publisher: Catapult Press
Genre: Fantasy
Series: Diamond Peak #3
Pages: 454
Format: eBook
Buy It: Amazon
Demon slayer, Ariel Malony, thought she knew her friend and travelling companion, Nick, but she discovers that at the University of Sheldra he is a respected translator with little time to spare. Now that he isn't at her side all the time, she wishes he was, and when she finally admits her love, powerful
emotions sweep her away like flotsam in a raging torrent.

An army of demons force them to cut short their stay and from the gothic architecture of Sheldra, they travel between enormous standing stones, and across a vast dry plain to the ancient granite walls of the Hermitage where Ariel meets her greatest challenge yet.

There, the demon lord, Emot takes advantage of her inexperience in matters of the heart and preys on her desire for pleasure, setting off a struggle with addiction that threatens to break Nick's heart and turn Ariel into the demon's mindless slave. She must reach deep into her soul and find the mystical power she needs to kill the one who promises pleasure but delivers only pain. Fail,
and she will lose the one she loves and spend an eternity in the demon's grip.

Although this can be read as a stand-alone novel, aspects of the story will be clearer if you have read the previous books in this series; Lethal Inheritance & Stalking Shadows.
For the next installment of the Diamond Peak series, Tahlia does not disappoint. Demon's Grip continues from where Stalking Shadows left off, focusing on Ariel and Nick's journey further up the mountain. Arial is forced to come head-on with her feelings for Nick, and can no longer ignore how she feels for him. This causes major struggles as she finally faces Emot, and has not learned how to reign in those emotions. The reader cheers her on the entire way, and again we all eagerly await the final installment of this action packed series. If you haven't started these books yet, what are you waiting for? Get on that!

I received this book free for review from the author. I was not required to post a positive review, simply an honest one.
